The EUR/USD pair rose by 1.41%, closing at 1.2202. The GBP/USD pair increased by 1.40%, closing the week at a 1.3728 exchange rate. The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States has barred Alibaba’s acquisition of MoneyGram. The United States Government blocked the deal over fears that the data of US citizens could be compromised. Gold went up by 0.94%, as of last week’s market close, closing at $1,334.90 an ounce. Crude Oil rose by 0.78%, closing at $64.30 a barrel.
Volkswagen has agreed to a payout of $290 million to settle claims of emissions violations dating from 2015. The US Environmental Protection Agency had charged the German automaker with installing software on its vehicles which was designed to mislead emissions test results.
The Dow Jones ended the week up by 0.89%, closing at a value of 25,803.19. The S&P 500 rose by 0.67%, closing at a value of 2,786.24. And lastly, the NASDAQ increased by 0.68%, ending the week at a value point of 7,261.06.
