Brazilian President Michel Temer told reporters that if he is unable to gather the 308 votes required to pass the pension reform by next Tuesday, then a vote on the legislation would have to wait until February 2018, after the parliamentary recess.

“If we have the 308 votes, we’ll go now. Otherwise, it is set to be February,” he said.

“The speaker (of the House of Representatives) Rodrigo Maia scheduled the beginning of the discussion for Thursday. I think that with the discussion we are clarifying several points because I see there is misleading information regarding Social Security,” Temer said.
