The United States saw Unemployment claims drop 15 thousand to 297 thousand from the previous of 282 thousand. Today we are expecting the Fed chair Yellen to give a speech about the economic outlook at 5:30 this evening UK time. On Wall Street stocks climbed with the tech heavy Nasdaq gaining 0.01%, the Dow Jones closing up 0.19% and the S&P finished 0.9% higher.

Dollar YEN pair gained 0.5% to 121.88. EUR/USD gained slightly to 1.1081 as Greek discussions continue. Early morning trading has cable in the 1.5420 region.

Overnight in Asian markets, the Nikkei jumped 0.4% remaining below the psychological level of 20000. Shanghai Composite index rose 3.7%. The CSI300 index, of the largest listed companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen gained 4.4 percent.

In commodities, West Texas Intermediate crude was trading up 0.7% at $53.17, more than 6% lower than last Fridays close. Brent Crude was up 0.6% trading at $58.95, still down 2% on the week. Gold traded at 1161.5 dollars an ounce. Chinese steel and iron ore prices hit record lows this week as demand in the world’s top producer slips.

An offer by Nutella spread maker Ferrero to buy out investors in British chocolate retailer Thorntons has reached a take-up of nearly 75 percent, the head of the Italian confectionery group was quoted as saying. The offer expires on July 16.
