Starbucks nailed it this holiday season, expecting to reach record gift card sales this holiday season. They offered two simple promotions; the first involved diversifying their gift-card appearances to accommodate a variety of holidays with varieties of artwork. In addition, they offered a promotional raffle, the prize being a 30 year supply of brand coffee and pastries. As a side gimmick, the card given to whoever wins is itself worth roughly $5,000 or gold or silver. Of ten possible prizes, two have already been claimed, leaving customers ever hopeful.
No one seems immune to the ‘wearables’ craze. Google Glass, the Apple Smartwatch, the many projects Intel is trying for…. Now, Nike has jumped in on the bandwagon, in a sense. While its new shirt doesn’t surf the web or even tell the time, it does track and monitor the wearer’s vitals. And not a single measurement, like blood pressure or pulse beats per minute like most vitals tracking gadgets do; it tracks everything from hydration to pulse to temperature. It might not search the web or navigate, but it looks to be the sportshirt equivalent of Google Glass.
