Despite disappointing retail sales that may be stemming from continuing inclement weather in the States, Microsoft showed signs of advancing in the tablet market. While tablet sale increases have drastically slowed in the past few years, the percent of Windows devices is expected to nearly triple in the coming years. While payouts will depend on retail picking back up, the boost in tablet market shares may serve as a segue for Microsoft to increase its stake in the smartphone market as well. In the meantime, however, low retail sales took their toll of 2.3% of Microsoft’s stock price yesterday.
