European markets have opened slightly higher today, after losses in the previous session. Investors await the start of US earnings season with Alcoa reporting second-quarter results after the regular market close.

Closer home, the quarterly economic survey from the British Chambers of Commerce indicated that the UK economy is still strong and moving in the right direction, but exports and business investment weakened. Later today, traders will keep a close eye on UK industrial and manufacturing production data along with NIESR GDP estimate.
