Stocks surged in the Asian market today as traders were watching the speech of Bank of Japan Governor Haruhiko Kuroda for economic clues. The BOJ has decided to double its growth lending program and has stated that individual banks could increase their borrowing levels. In addition, Kuroda made a point to do whatever is necessary to prevent deflation. All in all, the Nikkei closed 3.13% higher; the Hang Seng went up by 0.23% and the ASX 200 increased by 0.18%.
After Friday’s positive GDP reports; European stocks started declining as the ZEW economic sentiment report came out worse than expected. Traders will now be anticipating the MPC Meeting Minutes report which will start tomorrow at 09:30 GMT. At the end of the European session, markets finished mixed with the FTSE 100 edging 0.90% up, the DAX closing 0.03% higher and the CAC 40 dropping 0.10%.
The S&P enjoyed it`s best week of the year, with the most significant movement of the day being brought by the acquisition of the Forest Laboratories Inc. The company’s stock rose 28 percent after Actavis PLC decided to buy the corporation. Coca-Cola`s shares dropped 3.8% after the company`s earning sales came out worse than expected causing the Dow to drop. The S&P is up by 0.16%, the Dow has edged 0.15% lower and the NASDAQ is up by 0.68%.
