Apple is set to join the Dow Jones Industrial as markets open today, taking the place of AT&T on the exclusive, thirty-member index.  Though this move has been long-awaited, it bears with it certain connotations.  Namely, new members to the Dow Jones Industrial typically have a short initial boost from investor excitement before spending extended periods with stock values sliding.  Apple improved yesterday by 1.13%, and many expect it to increase another 3% in the next month before beginning a lengthy decline, as other new Dow Jones Industrial members have done before.
