The US dollar strengthened on Tuesday, as market participants anticipated the outcome of Federal Reserve’s two-day policy meeting.

Traders will also look forward to Fed Chair Janet Yellen’s post-meeting press conference Wednesday.

Against the Japanese yen, the greenback hit ¥123.58. The dollar closed at $1.1275 per euro.

Markets immediately reacted when they saw Kuroda in the headline, “but then he didn’t say anything,” said Bart Wakabayashi, Head of Forex at State Street Global Markets.

Bank of Japan Governor Haruhiko Kuroda said he was not evaluating nominal yen levels or forecasting its futures moves in last week’s remarks to parliament.
