Tesco commended a strong Christmas season following its UK sales escalated 1.3% in the six weeks through January 9.
Chief Executive Dave Lewis attributed strong sales to greater workforce in stores and lower prices. However, its sales lost 1.5% for the 13 weeks through November 28 following it ditched the £5 off £40 promotion last year.
Tesco shares leaped over 7% after the news.
