In the latest line of reprimands the international community has handed down to Russia, member  

leaders of the G7 gathered in the city of Brussels yesterday as an intentional slight towards the  

country’s role in the eastern Ukrainian crisis. Although the assembly consisted only of a formal  

dinner, it served the purpose of displaying further reservations against Russia’s latest moves on  

Ukraine’s eastern front.  

The present G7 summit of the is being held in the place of the G8’s original Sochi summit which  

Russia is a current but suspended member of. Members of the G7 include the finance ministers or  

in he world including France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States,  

Japan, and a representative from the European Union  

Russian President Vladimir Putin has recently agreed to measures aimed at de-escalating violence  

in the territory disputed with Ukraine. These include the withdrawal of troops along its border and  

agreeing to be present during the commemoration of the second world war’s Normandy landings  

alongside new elected Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.  

These weren’t enough however, as the cynic attitude of the G7 continued to prevail stemming from  

gathered information that says Putin’s promises are not being implemented as well as it should be  

The   North  Atlantic   Treaty   Organization’s   General   Philip   Breedlove   claims   that   several   large  

formations are still within the vicinity of Ukraine’s borders together with indications that suggest  

several of them are intending to remain.  

Prior to the summit in Belgium’s capital city, German Chancellor Angela Merkel stressed that they  

will not back away from imposing sanctions if Russia does not take additional steps to stop the  

ongoing violence. US President Obama has been vocal in showing their displeasure with the 

Moscow government saying it must cease from financing and arming the separatist rebels or else  

face consequences for breaching international law.
