Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies voted in favor of President Dilma Rousseff’s impeachment on Sunday night with an overwhelming number of lawmakers supporting her removal from office.

Out of the 513 deputies, 367 voted ‘Yes’ for Rousseff’s impeachment. Only 342 were needed to take the appeal to the Senate. If the upper house arrives at the same decision, Rousseff will be immediately suspended for 180 days and vice president Michel Temer will take the reigns.

Rousseff has accused the opposition of staging a ‘coup’ that intends to wipe out the innocent and save the corrupt officials. The president appealed to the Supreme Court earlier this week to prevent the lower house’s referendum but the appeal was rejected.
