Greeks have begun a nationwide strike that will last for 48 hours, expressing their angst at impending pension and tax reforms.

The demonstrations, headed by the biggest labor unions in private and public sectors, disrupted transport, left ships at port, and kept government workers and journalists off the job.

GSEE, the country’s largest labor union, reiterated the looming reforms were the last straw for pensioners and workers who have sacrificed so much following years of austerity.

The Greek government hopes lawmakers will pass the necessary measures in order to seal the much-needed bailout deal with global lenders.

As of present, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has 153 of 300 legislators in the parliament.
