The euro (EUR) failed to break above 1.3946 against the US dollar (USD) while currently trading below 1.3926. Over the past week the single currency has unsuccessfully tried to break above resistance and move above 1.4000.
The US dollar (USD) remains under pressure against the Japanese yen (JPY) however finding strong support at 101.29. The greenback may be tested today as investors look ahead to the FOMC Statement and press conference this afternoon at 18:00 GMT.
Equities
British stocks started a small rally as the Russian president Vladimir Putin stated that now further action against Ukraine will be followed. The UK 100 (FTS) index recorded a picked up from 6531 on Monday to 6605 this morning. The City of London is a favourite among the Russian elite and any escalation of the crisis would lead to a flight of cash from London.
Commodities
After falling more than two dollars over the weekend, Brent Crude (BRT) prices are aiming at a steady increase rising from a low of 105.90 to 106.75. this morning.
Mover & Shaker with FX Options
Gold (XAU) continues to slide since the beginning of the week. The precious metal fell from a high of 1392 on Monday to 1354 in today’s early trading, losing almost 40 dollars per troy ounce over two days.
Options traders may consider constructing a Bear Put Spread.
A bear put spread can be constructed by purchasing an at-the-money Put and selling an out-of-the-money Put.
