At the close of the New York Stock Exchange, the Dow Jones rose 0.56% to a one-month high, the S&P 500 rose 0.93% and the NASDAQ Composite rose 1.53%.
This week on Wednesday, the publication of the results of the meeting of the Federal Reserve System (FRS) is expected. About 74.7 percent of those surveyed by CME Group expect the regulator’s base interest rate to remain at the current level of 5-5.25 percent per annum, the remaining 23 percent predict its increase by 25 basis points. In addition, the markets will evaluate the Fed’s macroeconomic forecasts, as well as the comments of the Central Bank Chairman Jerome Powell.
The leading gainer among the components of the Dow Jones index today was Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which gained 1.73 points or 5.52% to close at 33.07. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) rose 4.25 points or 1.96% to close at 221.56. Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) rose 0.82 points or 1.65% to close at 50.48.
The least gainers were Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX), which shed 1.53 points or 0.96% to end the session at 157.33. Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) was up 1.15 points or 0.78% to close at 145.41, while Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) was down 0.85 points. (0.77%) and finished trading at 109.86.
Leading gainers among the components of the S&P 500 in today’s trading were Carnival Corporation (NYSE:CCL), which rose 12.53% to 14.73, Catalent Inc (NYSE:CTLT), which gained 10.28%, to close at 42.80, as well as Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NYSE:NCLH), which rose 7.22% to close at 18.41.
The least gainers were Nasdaq Inc (NASDAQ:NDAQ), which shed 11.81% to close at 51.00. Shares of KeyCorp (NYSE:KEY) shed 4.31% to end the session at 10.22. T. Rowe Price Group Inc (NASDAQ:TROW) dropped 3.33% to 110.66.
The leading performers in the NASDAQ Composite Index today were Auddia Inc (NASDAQ:AUUD), which rose 181.50% to 1.22, Asset Entities Inc (NASDAQ:ASST), which gained 75.65%. , to close at 2.02, and Chinook Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:KDNY), which edged up 58.32% to close at 37.98.
The least gainers were Forza X1 Inc (NASDAQ:FRZA), which shed 47.44% to close at 1.64. Shares of Cyxtera Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:CYXT) shed 25.78% to end the session at 0.05. HTG Molecular Diagnostics Inc (NASDAQ:HTGM) dropped 19.42% to 0.59.
On the New York Stock Exchange, the number of securities that rose in price (1573) exceeded the number of those that closed in the red (1403), while quotes of 92 shares remained virtually unchanged. On the NASDAQ stock exchange, 2099 companies rose in price, 1469 fell, and 160 remained at the level of the previous close.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which is based on S&P 500 options trading, rose 8.53% to 15.01.
Gold futures for August delivery lost 0.29%, or 5.65, to hit $1.00 a troy ounce. In other commodities, WTI July futures fell 4.16%, or 2.92, to $67.25 a barrel. Brent oil futures for August delivery fell 3.76%, or 2.81, to $71.98 a barrel.
Meanwhile, in the Forex market, the EUR/USD pair remained unchanged 0.10% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.18% to hit 139.57.
Futures on the USD index rose 0.04% to 103.19.
