US stock market closes higher, Dow Jones gains 0.50%

US initial jobless claims for the week ending June 3 increased by 28,000 from the previous week’s revised figure to 261,000. The value is the highest since October 2021. According to analysts, the increase in the indicator may indicate a deterioration in the situation in the labor market, which may be a signal to the Fed to complete the rate hike cycle.
The Fed meeting will be held next week, on Tuesday and Wednesday. According to CME Group, about 71% of analysts expect the discount rate to remain at the current level of 5-5.25% per annum, the remaining 29% predict its increase to 5.25-5.5%.
Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was the top gainer among the Dow Jones Index components in today’s trading, up 6.18 points or 2.92% to close at 218.11. Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) rose 3.80 points or 1.85% to close at 209.53. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) rose 0.54 points or 1.73% to close at 31.82.
The least gainers were Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW), which shed 1.09 points (2.02%) to end the session at 52.78. Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) was up 2.22 points or 0.99% to close at 223.05, while Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) was down 0.89 points or 0. .83%) and finished trading at 106.20.
The leading performers in the S&P 500 Index today were Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:WBD), which rose 6.86% to hit 14.02, Adobe Systems Incorporated (NASDAQ:ADBE), which gained 4. 95% to close at 439.03 and Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA), which rose 4.58% to close at 234.86.
The least gainers was DISH Network Corporation (NASDAQ:DISH), which shed 4.50% to close at 7.43. Shares of Pool Corporation (NASDAQ:POOL) shed 4.16% to end the session at 324.64. Eastman Chemical Company (NYSE:EMN) was down 3.98% to 80.42.
Among the components of the NASDAQ Composite index, Baosheng Media Group Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:BAOS) gained 136.76% to hit 14.04, Oncology Institute Inc (NASDAQ:TOI) gained 36 .42% to close at 0.65, and Rigetti Computing Inc (NASDAQ:RGTI), which rose 33.33% to close at 1.38.
The least gainers were Wejo Group Ltd (NASDAQ:WEJO), which shed 31.92% to close at 0.05. Shares of Precipio Inc (NASDAQ:PRPO) shed 29.40% to end the session at 0.48. Hashicorp Inc (NASDAQ:HCP) dropped 25.86% to 25.78.
On the New York Stock Exchange, the number of depreciated securities (1475) exceeded the number of closed in positive territory (1457), and quotes of 106 shares remained virtually unchanged. On the NASDAQ stock exchange, 1,851 companies fell in price, 1,709 rose, and 153 remained at the previous close.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which is based on S&P 500 options trading, fell 2.08% to 13.65, hitting a new 3-year low.
Gold futures for August delivery added 1.11%, or 21.65, to hit $1.00 a troy ounce. In other commodities, WTI July futures fell 2.22%, or 1.61, to $70.92 a barrel. Brent crude for August delivery fell 1.85%, or 1.42, to $75.53 a barrel.
Meanwhile, in the Forex market, EUR/USD rose 0.77% to hit 1.08, while USD/JPY shed 0.88% to hit 138.90.
Futures on the USD index fell 0.73% to 103.30.
