Investors continue to monitor corporate earnings reports. For example, the net profit of IT giant Microsoft grew in the previous quarter, and revenue turned out to be better than forecasts. The company also announced its intention to continue investing in artificial intelligence.

Alphabet, owner of Google, shares also rise in price by 1.2%. The company’s net profit for the first quarter slightly decreased, but revenue was higher than expected. Additionally, Alphabet announced a share buyback of $70 billion.

After the close of the main trading session on Wednesday, eBay will publish its reports, followed by Amazon on Thursday.

Markets also continue to monitor the situation surrounding First Republic Bank. The bank’s shares have been plummeting for the second day in a row, with securities falling by 30% on Wednesday. On Tuesday, First Republic Bank noted in its report that it lost over $100 billion in deposits during the first quarter of this year.
At the close of trading on the New York Stock Exchange, the Dow Jones fell 0.68%, the S&P 500 index lost 0.38%, and the NASDAQ Composite index rose 0.47%.

Merck & Company Inc (NYSE: MRK) shares rose by 3.10 points (2.66%), closing at 113.43, while Honeywell International Inc (NASDAQ: HON) shares fell in price by 5.06 points (2.58%) and ended trading at 190.90.

Among the growth leaders of the S&P 500 index components at the end of today’s trading session were Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc (NYSE: CMG) shares, which appreciated by 12.91% to 2.00, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT), which gained 7.24%, closing at 295.37, and Allegion PLC (NYSE: ALLE) shares, which increased by 5.47%, closing the session at 107.53.

The least gainers were First Republic Bank (NYSE: FRC) shares, which fell in price by 29.75%, closing at 5.69. Shares of Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ: ENPH) lost 25.73% and ended the session at 163.83. Activision Blizzard Inc (NASDAQ: ATVI) quotes fell in price by 11.45% to 76.81.

Among the growth leaders of the NASDAQ Composite index components at the end of today’s trading session were Crown Electrokinetics Corp. (NASDAQ: CRKN) shares, which appreciated by 80.19% to 0.15, Elevation Oncology Inc (NASDAQ: ELEV), which gained 77.19%, closing at 3.03, and ETAO International Co Ltd (NASDAQ: ETAO) shares, which increased by 57.33%, ending the session at 1.18.

The least gainers were Zyversa Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: ZVSA) shares, which fell in price by 69.07%, closing at 0.50. Shares of Bed Bath & Beyond Inc (NASDAQ: BBBY) lost 43.80% and ended the session at 0.11. Powerbridge Technologies Co Ltd (NASDAQ: PBTS) quotes fell in price by 34.98% to 0.06.

At the New York Stock Exchange, the number of falling shares (1945) exceeded the number of those closing in the green (1017), and the quotes of 101 shares remained virtually unchanged. On the NASDAQ Stock Exchange, shares of 2139 companies fell, 1454 rose, and 178 stayed at the previous closing level.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which is based on trading indicators of options on the S&P 500, rose by 0.43% to 18.84.

Gold futures for June delivery lost 0.28%, or 5.70, reaching the mark of $1,00 per troy ounce. As for other commodities, WTI oil futures for June delivery fell by 3.56%, or 2.74, to $74.33 per barrel. Brent oil futures for July delivery fell by 3.57%, or 2.88, to $77.72 per barrel.

Meanwhile, in the Forex market, the EUR/USD pair rose by 0.59% to 1.10, and the USD/JPY quotes fell by 0.04%, reaching 133.65.

The US Dollar Index futures dropped by 0.38% to 101.20.
