Clinton takes the first US presidential debate
• Hillary Clinton may have won the first debate, at least according to financial markets.
• Risky assets rallied (US stock futures, AUD & NZD), while gold and JPY lost ground.
• Another clear sign that Clinton won was the rebound in the Mexican peso.
• Polls remain close (at least for now), so much will be decided in the next two debates.
• Next debate: Oct. 9th.
Today:
• Sweden: Retail sales for Aug. are exp. to have risen. This could support SEK a bit.
• Eurozone: M3 money supply growth for Aug.
• US: Prel. Markit services PMI for Sep. is exp. to increase somewhat, while the CB consumer confidence index for Sep. is exp. to decline. Focus may fall primarily on an increase in the services PMI, which could support USD a bit.
• Speakers: Fed Vice Chair Stanley Fischer.
