Economic Calendar is extremely busy on this Thursday, so let’s take a closer look.
Flash PMI data run for February opens this agenda at 8:15 in the morning, when French Manufacturing and Services statistics will be published. German data will then be available fifteen minutes later and the whole bloc’s overview will then wrap things up at 9 AM. Both measures remain above the critical 50-level in Euro Zone, but the manufacturing sector is expanding at an extremely slow pace.
The UK Public Sector Finances for January are up next at 9:30 in the morning. Public borrowing excluding public sector banks was 3 billion pounds in December, which was 300 million up from a year ago.
The European Central Bank accounts of the Governing Council’s January meeting could then potentially shake up Euro pairs at a half past noon GMT.
It will then be busy with news reports regarding the US economy at 1:30 PM GMT, including the high importance advance US Durable Goods report for December. Orders rose by a downwardly revised point 7 percent in November, driven by demand for military aircraft.
The Initial US Jobless Claims for week ending February 16th will be available at the same time along with the Philadelphia Fed Survey for February.
The Markit version of the Flash US PMIs for February is up next at a quarter to three PM GMT. Both measures stand above the 50-level and no significant moves are expected this time around.
A couple of January reports regarding the US economy are then published at 3 PM GMT, including the Existing Home Sales stats. Sales disappointed in December as they slipped below the 5 million mark for the first time since late 2015.
The Conference Board Leading Indicator is the other item out at this time. The index slipped by one tenth of a percent in December after gaining point 2 percent in November.
The Bank of Canada Governor Stephen Poloz will speak at 5:35 PM and this should be a closely watched event.
Another high importance event follows at 10:30 PM when the Reserve Bank of Australia Governor Philip Lowe will testify before Parliament.
And, finally, the Japanese National Consumer Price Index for January wraps up this busy agenda at 11:30 PM GMT.
