Past year has been bumpy for production in Germany, as there were just five monthly increases reported throughout the year. The UK Halifax House Price Index for January continues the data run at 8:30 in the morning. Prices jumped by 2.2 percent month on month in the final month of 2018 to wipe out November’s decline of 1.2 percent. This is followed by the day’s key events for Sterling traders at noon GMT. The Bank of England will release their monetary policy announcement and the quarterly inflation report. Previously, the Monetary Policy Committee voted unanimously to maintain Bank Rate at point 75 percent. The committee also voted unanimously to maintain the stock of corporate bond purchases and UK government bond purchases. The weekly update on the US Jobless Claims will then be available at 1:30 PM GMT. Initial claims surged by more than 50 thousand to 253 thousand in the week ending January 26th. The US Consumer Credit stats for December are up next at 8 PM GMT. Consumer credit jumped by slightly more than 22 billion US Dollars in November, which was more than markets were anticipating. A couple of Japanese reports for December then follow at ten to midnight and these are Household Spending figures and Current Account statistics. The quarterly Reserve Bank of Australia Monetary Policy Statement wraps up this agenda at a half past midnight. It includes the Bank’s assessment of current economic conditions, both domestic and international, along with the outlook for Australian inflation and output growth.
