Not So Sterling

Morning Report: 07.00 London

• Markets are quiet as is often the case on the morning of an NFP day. The S&P 500 is up slightly after heavy selling yesterday, while the Dollar index is unchanged.

• The Pound is holding on after selling off yesterday. MPC voting patterns and comments from Carney implied a rate hike may be further in the future than previously speculated.

• Elsewhere, the Australian and New Zealand Dollars are on the rise.

• Coming up today we have UK trade balance at 09.30.

• This is followed by the big jobs numbers from the US and Canada at 13.30. US Non Farm Employment, average hourly earnings and the unemployment rate are one set of data, while Canadian building permits, employment change and the unemployment are released at the same time. Canadian Ivey PMI follows at 15.00.

Trade Idea:

The GBP/USD has been hit, but the recent MPC meeting only really provided a slight stay of execution. There’s still upside to be had for the GBP/USD.

A good way to play this is a HIGHER trade predicting that the GBP/ USD will close above 1.5600 in 21 days time for a potential return of 150%.
