There’s not a lot of action packed into the economic calendar for this week’s first trading day, but there’s been plenty of moving and shaking nonetheless. I`m Doireann McDermott. Sterling/Australia has been climbing up during most of the session and the pair stands almost 1% in the green, which is the day’s biggest move. Sterling tops the advancers and decliners table as speculations of an interest rate rise have returned. The US stock indexes have opened in the red as US existing home sales disappointed, pushing the safe-havens higher. Japanese Yen is only slightly up from the US Dollar. Swissie is almost level with the Euro, which gave up gains as the ECB president Mario Draghi said the region’s recovery is losing momentum. Commodity currency trio wraps up the advancers and decliners table. New Zealand Dollar is the most bullish one of them as Prime Minister John Key returned to power in a record election victory. It’s followed by Canadian Dollar and then the Ozzy Dollar, which is the most bearish major as China’s Finance Minister Loy Jiwei said yesterday growth of China’s economy faces downward pressure. Moving on to longer term charts, Sterling/Australia tops the weekly bulls chart with an increase of 2.72%. Australia/Canada has declined the most over the same term and it’s 2.51% in the red. Dollar/Yen has returned to the top of the monthly bulls list and it shows a solid increase of 5.52%. Australia/Dollar leads the bearish section with a slide of 4.75%.
