Thursday, the 20th of November, is a busy day with numerous known market movers, and this Economic Calendar helps you to make the most of it. I’m Monica Gibson
Coming up first at 7 o’clock in the morning is the Swiss Trade Balance for October. Trade surplus expanded in September as imports fell faster than exports.
Preliminary November PMI estimates from several Euro zone countries follow next, starting with the French release at 8. The German estimate comes half an hour later, and the data for entire Euro Zone is out at 9. The October release came in stronger than expected as both German and French indices went up.
UK Retail Sales for October will be available at half past nine. Sales went down in September, and a strong drop in clothing sales was the main culprit.
Two closely watched news releases regarding the US Economy are out at 1:30 PM GMT, including the October Consumer Price Index. Consumer prices inched slightly higher in September, following a point 2% decline the previous month.
The weekly Jobless Claims update is out at the same time. Initial claims went up by 12 thousand during the week ending November 8, whereas the continuing claims grew by 36 thousand during the week ending November 1.
Canadian Wholesale Trade for September will also be available at this time. Sales went up in August as growth im machinery, equipment and supplies subsectors was enough to offset declines in other subsectors.
US Preliminary Manufacturing PMI for November is out at quarter to three. The Index surprised on the downside in October, hitting a three month low, although it remains well in the positive territory.
Philadelphia Fed Business Outlook for November follows at three o’clock. The Index continued to decline in October, having reached a three-year high in August, but it still indicates strong growth in the manufacturing sector.
US Existing Home Sales for October are due at the same time. September data came in stronger than expected as sales rose to a 12-month high.
Euro Zone Preliminary Consumer Confidence for November will be released at this time as well. The Index stood unchanged in October, following four months of decline.
And that concludes the Economic Calendar for Thursday. Our next release will cover the key events for Friday. See you then.
