Let’s see which news releases could move the currency markets on Tuesday, the 9th of January. This is the Economic Calendar. Swiss December Unemployment Rate is up first at quarter to 7 AM, although, strictly speaking, there’s little unemployment to speak of as the rate inched down to no more than 3% in November. Two news releases regarding the German economy in November follow at 7, including the Industrial Production data. Output has been declining for the past 2 months as both capital and consumer goods production went down. Trade Balance is out at the same time, and trade surplus narrowed in October as exports inched lower and imports went up. Swiss National Bank will publish its foreign currency reserves data for December at 8, and reserves eased in November from the record-high level reached a month ago. Euro Zone November Unemployment Rate is scheduled at 10. Unemployment has been decreasing for the past 3 months and now stands at its lowest level since early 2009. Coming up next at quarter past 1 are the Canadian Housing Starts for December. November data surprised on the upside as the number of starts reached a 9-month high. US JOLTS Job Openings for November are out at 3. The number of openings has stood at or above 6 million for the past 5 months. There’s a break in the schedule until 1:30 AM, when the closely watched Chinese December CPI is released. The annual inflation eased in November from the 10-month high reached a month ago. And Chinese Producer Price Index for December is out at the same time. Producer prices continued growing in November, but at a slower pace than the 6.9% annual gain posted in October and September.
