The schedule starts off with a bang, as the European Central Bank releases its latest Monetary Policy Statement at 11:45 AM, and do make sure you tune in for the press conference which starts 45 minutes later as President Draghi has a knack for shaking up the markets with his comments. The closely watched weekly update on US Jobless Claims follows at 12:30 PM GMT. Initial claims went up by 2 thousand during the week ending August 27 whereas the continuing claims went up by 14 thousand during the week ending August 20. It is worth noting the increase was smaller than anticipated. Canadian New Housing Price Index for July is out at the same time. The Index inched slightly higher in June, having surged by point 7% a month ago. And Canadian Building Permits for July come at this time as well. The number of permits has been declining for the past two months as both residential and non-residential permits are down. US Consumer Credit for July will be available at 7. The growth in consumer lending slowed down considerably in June and, in fact, it was the weakest in almost 4 years. Coming up next at 1:30 AM are the Australian Home Loans for July. Lending rebounded in June, reversing a point 8% drop the previous month, but the growth was smaller than anticipated. And Japanese Tertiary Industry Index for July is up last at half past 4.
