Then it’s the day’s key event at 12:45 PM when the ECB monetary policy announcement takes place. The closely watched press conference will follow at 1:30. Canadian housing starts for February are up next at a quarter past 1. The pace of housing starts was almost unchanged in January. Then it’s busy with North American publications at 1:30 PM and US jobless claims are out at this time. Initial claims were down by 10 thousand during the week ending 24th of February. Canadian building permits for January is the second item out at this time. Permits jumped by 4.8% in December, partially wiping out November’s drop of 7.3%. Canadian new housing price index for January is the final publication scheduled at 1:30. House prices were flat in December and this was the first time they haven’t advanced since early 2015. Japanese Household Spending for January follows at a half past 11 PM. A slight contraction was posted in December after a surge of 1.7% in November.
