Friday brings the latest update on US labour market, so let’s take a closer look with the Economic Calendar.
Coming up first at 5:45 AM is the Swiss Unemployment Rate for June. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate has stood at the same 3.2% level for the past 2 months.
German Industrial Production for May follows at 6. Output rebounded strongly in April, following a point 1% slip the previous month.
Swiss National Bank will release its foreign currency reserves data for June at 7. Reserves inched slightly lower in May, having peaked at 697 billion the previous month.
UK Halifax House Price Index for June is out half an hour later. May data surprised on the upside as the Index posted its first increase in 4 months.
Two news releases regarding the UK economy in May will be available at 8:30, and Trade Balance is one of them. Trade deficit narrowed in April as exports fell faster than imports.
Industrial Production did return to growth in April, but not enough to offset a point 5% drop the previous month.
UK NIESR Monthly GDP estimate for June is out at noon and, as this release covers three months, it will include the second quarter data. The previous two releases put the three-month growth at just point 2%, which is the weakest result in more than a year.
And the highly anticipated US June Labor Report comes at 12:30 PM GMT. The unemployment rate inched lower in May, but employment growth did slow down, suggesting the US economy may be nearing full employment.
The Canadian counterpart of this release is scheduled at the same time, and it actually showed the opposite result: employment grew more than anticipated but unemployment rate inched higher as well.
Canadian Ivey PMI for June follows at 2. The May Index came in much weaker than expected, plunging by 8.6 points.
Federal Reserve will publish its closely watched semi-annual Monetary Policy Report at 3, and Fed watchers will appreciate any hints about the possibility of another rate hike this year.
I’m Celeste Skinner and this was the Economic Calendar for Friday, the 7th of July. Check back in for the next overview of key events for Monday. See you then.
