Friday, the 5th of January, is packed with important news releases, so let’s find out more. Starting things off at 7 AM are German November Retail Sales. Sales slipped unexpectedly in October, reversing a half a percent gain the previous month. Euro Zone Retail PMI for December follows at 9:10. The Index rebounded in November from the three month low reached the previous month. The closely watched Euro Zone December CPI comes at 10, and the November data came in somewhat weaker than expected; in particular, core annual inflation stood unchanged. Euro Zone Producer Price Index for November is out at the same time, and the Index inched lower in October from the 9-month high it reached in September. Coming up next at 1:30 PM GMT is the closely watched US December Labor Report. The labour market has consistently been a good performer, and unemployment is at its lowest level in decades. US Trade Balance for November is out at the same time. Trade deficit widened in October as exports stood unchanged and imports widened. And Canadian counterparts of these releases will be available at this time as well. The labour report is of high importance to Loonie Dollar traders, and it the November data surprised on the upside; in particular, full-time jobs saw solid growth and youth unemployment went down. Canadian trade deficit narrowed in October as exports went up and imports declined. US ISM Non-Manufacturing PMI for December follows at 3. The Index declined more than anticipated in November, having reached a record-high level the previous month. US Factory Orders for November will be available at the same time. Orders eased in October, following 2 months of stronger-than-anticipated growth. And Canadian Ivey PMI for December is another release that’s scheduled at this time. The Index has stood well above the 60 point mark for the last 2 months, indicating a solid and sustained expansion. So that’s all for Friday’s Economic Calendar.
