How will the European Central Bank respond to the disappointing Euro Zone statistics? This Thursday brings an answer to that question. I’m Alex Iszatt and you’re watching the Dukascopy Economic Calendar.
Coming up first at half past eight AM is the UK Construction PMI for September. The Index came in much stronger than expected in August as housing, commercial and civil engineering sectors all saw strong growth.
Euro Zone Producer Price Index for August follows at nine. A point 6% drop in energy prices pushed the total lower in July, although the remaining sectors saw little change.
The next item on the schedule comes at 11:45 when the European Central Bank will release its highly anticipated Monetary Policy Statement, and ECB President Mario Draghi will comment on the decision at a press conference held 45 minutes later. The policy makers took the markets by surprise the last time, cutting the interest rates even lower.
Next up at 12:30 PM GMT is the closely watched weekly update on US Jobless Claims. Initial claims rose by 12 thousand during the week ending September 20 while the continuing claims went up by 7 thousand during the week ending September 13.
US Factory Orders for August will be available at 2 o’clock. Factory orders spiked in July, posting the strongest growth in years.
Australian AiG Performance of Service Index for September is out at 11:30 in the evening. The Index has stood below the 50 point mark indicating growth for the last 6 months.
And the Japanese Services PMI for September is released at 1:35 AM. The August index showed a slight contraction in the service sector.
So these are the news releases to watch on Thursday, the 2nd of October. Our next release will cover the most important news publications scheduled for Friday. Goodbye.
