Afternoon Report: Rally time (Will it last this time)?

Market Report: 16.30 London

Markets look set for their biggest one day rally since coming off the lows in July. The rally is broad based with the risk barometer of the AUD/JPY and stock markets such as the Dow Jones & FTSE all singing from the same hymn sheet.

The AUD/JPY is up 2.13% as risk appetite returns, forcing the yen lower.

The Dow Jones is up by over 3%.

This actually still puts it behind the FTSE 100 in terms of distance from the highs of August.

The FTSE 100 is off these highs by just 1.1%, while the Dow still has another 4% to go.

Today's catalyst appears to be the better than expected US ISM manufacturing data, which smashed estimates to come in at 56.3.

It hasn't been universally good news though with US ADP non farm employment change coming in below estimates and UK manufacturing numbers disappointing.

The news has caused the GBP to lag behind today, as best seen on the EUR/GBP.
