Volkswagen AG’s luxury car brand Audi is looking to make Q5 SUVs electric version at its new Mexico plant, two sources said.

The German carmaker will open a factory worth $1.3 billion in Mexico on September 30. It will be Audi’s first factory in the country.

The sources said that the gasoline-powered Q5, which is one of Audi’s best-selling models globally, will be produced first at the plant in San Jose Chiapa in central Mexico, but will also introduce the electric version in the future.
